No Nintendo DS titles to rent!

[?]

Back in January i received an email from a member of LOVEFiLM called Steven Green, as an owner of a Nintendo DS he had noticed that LOVEFiLM are not supporting the console for any rentals.

Hi, I was wondering if you had any idea why Lovefilm isn’t renting out Nintendo DS games?

I’ve had a couple of replies from them in the past, one vaguely mentioned that they only did discs not cartridges and the other said there wasn’t the demand.

I’m honestly baffled by both, doubly so when you see the literally record breaking sales the DS has been getting (just google ”DS UK hardware”).

I can only assume someone is just simply out of the loop, the sales speak to the demand and any possible problems should be overshadowed by that demand.

Any info/news on this would be greatly appreciated.

Cheers,

Steve Green

I too had noticed this, and as the Nintendo is such a massively popular hand-held console it seems strange that LOVEFiLM wouldn’t supply any titles for it, yet they still supply titles for older Nintendo consoles.

I have written to LOVEFiLM and they have replied saying that they will look into the oversight. So watch this space to see if any Nintendo DS titles come up for you guys to rent.

Thanks to Steven for bringing this up, if you guys have any other questions please email them and i will post them here, and hopefully bring awareness to LOVEFiLM on all points.

    Hi David,

Thanks for posting my email to your blog; since I sent it I’ve seen companies like http://www.swapgame.com which seem to be at the moment running circles around lovefilm in the game rental area.

I use lovefilm pretty much exclusively for game rentals and unless things change based on my comparison with swapgame I’ll probably switch to them. Lovefilm seems to be disinterested in their game rental side with both low turn arounds (I haven’t seen any of my high priority titles shipped for months) and so-so stock (Zack and Wiki been the latest example, available on swapgame, missing on Lovefilm).

Perhaps they see the game rental side as an added bonus for the customer rather than a fully developed feature, you can see this in a number of ways on the site, I’ve even had one customer support person go as far as to say that they frown on 100% game renters.

Time will tell really, either they pick up the ball with things like DS games and providing highly demanded titles (good luck trying to rent Halo 3) or they lose out to companies like swapgame. Thanks again for posting my email to your blog.

    Cheers,

    Steve Green

We’re hopefully not far away from DS games being available - we are test mailing now to ensure they don’t get damaged in the post, in a standard LOVEFiLM envelope

    Looking promising so far

Excellent news Nick, Thanks for your time to reply and let us know what is going on with the DS titles. Do you have a date that they will be available for rental yet?

Won’t it be too much of a headache of a business model?

How will they wipe the save data from every cartridge that is returned?
